This is the blog for a course at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, IL. We are a Residential College Program course called Community Based Practices. We have worked together for two consecutive semesters and have embarked on some collaborations with people in the Chicago area who are doing work that we liked and wanted to contribute to. Our first public collaboration was with Food Not Bombs and we called our contribution "Feast Not Bombs", in part because we had a project on the books called "Feast" and in part because what we contributed was a healthy, homemade meal in hand silkscreened bags (here <--> in the background), planned and designed by the 10 members of the class. Our second, and more deeply involved, collaboration was with the Rumble Arts Center in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago. We brainstormed, designed and created a new storefront look for the center. This took several weeks of visiting Rumble Arts and meeting with their Director, Brook Woolf and several "family" members of the Rumble Arts crew. We used their branding font & elephant design to springboard off of and came up with some fresh looks...
Enjoy the photos for each of these projects!
